Robert Kuhn

Bob began birding in the 1940's when he and his parents went on Saturday morning bird hikes organized by the Milwaukee Public Museum.  He began photographing birds in the 1960's.
He moved to Algoma in 1991 and switched to digital photography about 2001.  Bob is strictly an amateur photographer, using a digital zoom camera that is available for about $500.00.
Bob has sent thousands of bird photos to the Wisconsin DNR; his photos are often published in the Kewaunee County Star-News.
His presentation will feature bird photography at its best!

Rob Hults

Rob has been fascinated by nature and the outdoors since early childhood.  As an adult he volunteered at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Milwaukee and was offered the opportunity to work with their Skyhunters group doing educational programs with birds of prey.  He soon fell under the spell of these magnificent animals, and decided to make a career of working with them.  After working and training at the World Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis, Ohio Bird Sanctuary, and two years at the Irish Raptor Research Center in Ballymote Ireland, the foundation was built for a new endeavor.  He founded the Open Door Bird Sanctuary in Door County in 2010.  Today, Rob is the Executive Director of ODBS and is in charge of caring for their resident birds, as well as doing public environmental education.  The 34 acre sanctuary is home to 14 raptors, does many educational programs throughout NE Wisconsin and is open to the public during the summer months.

Amy Hults

Amy is a lifelong resident of Door County, WI.  Growing up as the third generation on Cherrydale Farm, her connection with animals began early in life.  In her teens she was a key staff member at "The Farm" caring for their education animals, and working with the public at this Door County landmark attraction.  While raising a family, she was one of the top organic produce growers in Door County.  She is currently a Certified Veterinary Technician at Peninsula Vet in Sturgeon Bay.  Amy has been working with birds of prey since 2014 and is a primary person in the care and training of the fourteen avian residents at Open Door Bird Sanctuary.  She is also the Volunteer Coordinator for the organization.

Charlotte moved to Door County in May 1972 upon her marriage to Roy Lukes.  She continued working in her profession as a dental hygienist until retiring in the summer of 1998.  Charlotte also helped her husband with his nature education work at The Ridges Sanctuary proof reading his newspaper columns and later teaching in their own school called Nature-Wise.

Charlotte writes the weekly Peninsula Pulse column, Door to Nature, and writes nature features for the quarterly magazine Door County Living.

Studying wild mushrooms since 1972 has helped her identify 585 different species in Door County.  Charlotte continues teaching, leading hikes, and presenting nature education programs throughout the county for many groups of interested people.
