Door Landscape and Nursery

Karen has been a naturalist and environmental educator for over 30 years.  She was the naturalist at Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor for 14 years.  Currently she is the Retail Nursery Supervisor at Door Landscape and Nursery, a company specializing in native plants for home landscapes.

Attracting butterflies to your yard and garden will be the focus of her presentation.  Planting the right flowers and grasses will bring the butterflies as well as welcoming songbirds to your garden.

Rob and Amy Hults
Open Door Bird Sanctuary

Picture
Rob Hults has been fascinated by nature and the outdoors since early childhood.  As an adult, he volunteered at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Milwaukee, and was offered the opportunity to work with their Skyhunters group doing education programs with birds of prey.  He soon fell under the spell of these magnificent animals, and decided to make a career of working with them.

After working and training at the World Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis, Ohio Bird Sanctuary, and two years at the Irish Raptor Research Centre in Ballymote, Ireland, the foundation was built for a new endeavor.

He founded the Open Door Bird Sanctuary in Door County in 2010.  Today, Rob is the Executive Director of Open Door Bird Sanctuary and is in charge of caring for their resident birds, as well as doing public environmental education.  The 34 acre sanctuary provides a home for fourteen raptors, does many educational programs throughout NE Wisconsin, and is open to the public during the summer months.

Amy Hults is a lifelong resident of Door County.  Growing up as the third generation on Cherrydale Farm, her connection with animals began early in life.  In her teens she was a key staff member at "The Farm" caring for their education animals, and working with the public at this Door County landmark attraction.

While raising a family, she was one of the top organic produce growers in Door County.  She is currently a Certified Veterinary Technician at Peninsula Vet in Sturgeon Bay  Amy has been working with birds of prey since 2014 and is a primary person in the care and training of the fourteen avian residents at Open Door Bird Sanctuary.  She is also the Volunteer Coordinator for the organization
